Los Angeles Southwest College
A 20 year vision became a reality for a dedicated group of residents in February 1967 when the Los Angeles Board of Education approved plans to build a community college at the corner of Western Avenue and Imperial Highway in Los Angeles. On September 11, 1967, Los Angeles Southwest College officially opened its doors with 600 students and 22 full-time faculty members.

Louisiana State University
Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College had its origin in certain land grants made by the United States government in 1806, 1811, and 1827 for use as a seminary of learning. In 1853, the Louisiana General Assembly established the Seminary of Learning of the State of Louisiana near Pineville, Louisiana.

In 1959, the Louisiana Legislature authorized the establishment of LSUA as a two-year commuter college under the governance of the LSU Board of Supervisors. LSUA registered its first students in September of 1960. The first degree program, an Associate in Nursing degree, was initiated in the Division of Nursing in 1964.
