In September 2002 — The Peace Garden is dedicated in a September 11 ceremony as a place for remembrance and reflection. At the same dedication ceremony, the college rededicated its name, “Chemeketa,” which means “a place of peace.”
Chemeketa is a college community enriched by the diversity of its students and staff. Each individual and group has the potential to contribute in the learning environment. Each has dignity. To diminish the dignity of one is to diminish the dignity of them all.
