Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC), created by the consolidation of Jefferson Community College (JCC) and Jefferson Technical College (JTC) on July 1, 2005, serves the Jefferson District of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) with campuses in Carroll, Jefferson, and Shelby counties in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Founded in 1968 in downtown Louisville as part of the University of Kentucky Community College System, Jefferson Community College later expanded to locations in southwest Jefferson County, Carroll County, and Shelby County; and in 1998, the College joined KCTCS. In 1953, the Jefferson County Board of Education chartered the Jefferson County State Vocational-Technical School to meet the postsecondary, technical education needs of Louisville and surrounding areas. In 1990, the school began operating as Kentucky TECH, Jefferson Campus. In 1998, the name changed to Jefferson Technical College to reflect its inclusion in KCTCS. In the fall of 2000, the Correctional Education Centers in Oldham and Shelby Counties were linked with Jefferson Technical College. The Marion County Adjustment Center was added in 2003.
Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) is a comprehensive, public, two-year postsecondary institution providing students access to a wide variety of programs of study including allied health, business, engineering technologies, general education transfer studies, information technologies, and trade and industry technologies. Currently, academic goals are achieved through:
* Developmental education courses and academic support services designed to prepare individuals for future success in transfer, technical, and continuing education programs and courses;
* Associate in Applied Science degree programs, diploma programs, certificate programs, and courses designed to prepare individuals to succeed in today’s technological workforce; and
* Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degree programs and courses designed to prepare individuals to succeed in baccalaureate programs at senior colleges and universities.
Additionally, the College serves as a center of lifelong learning. Continuing education, training activities and services are designed to expand the life skills and knowledge of our citizens, strengthen the existing workforce, enhance community and business development, and provide personal growth and values development resulting in an improved quality of life for the members of our community.
Jefferson Community and Technical College provides a physical and intellectual environment for the students, faculty, and staff that promotes cultural, ethnic, racial, and gender diversity. Further, the college offers services and supports practices and programs that embody the ideals of an open, democratic, and global society and that ensure the effective and efficient operation of the college.
